Well lookie here…we are at the second last Gordie’s of the season! Where has the time gone? No point looking back though when there is so much to look forward to! Starting with WAYWISER this Thursday!
The music that these boys make is reminiscent of a simpler time, a time before iphones and computer games, where folk gathered on the porch to tell tales and sing songs and create their own entertainment, where people talked to one another and stories got passed down the generations through banjo picks and guitar licks. That’s what I’m talkin’ about! Ben Wytinck and Marcel Desilets will bring that to the table tomorrow night! So I encourage y’all to come on down to Gordie’s Old Tyme Porch Sittin’ Session and maybe say “Hi” to a stranger and talk about the weather… ahhh!
Next on the agenda is the WANG DANG DOODLE OPEN MIC EXTRAVAGANZA! Tuesday June 25th this year! That’s right I said TUESDAY! As the Blue Bombers have their opening game at their new stadium on Thursday the 27th, (we don’t wanna steal their thunder), we have changed our date to the 25th! Lots of great music and prizes to be won, all in the support of a splendid organization…HOUSE OF HESED! It is held out in the sanctuary of the church and gives all the performers a spot on the BIG STAGE! tada! Tickets are $5.00. Bring your friends, bring your family and c’mon out to support live local music supporting live local people!

Let’s NOT say that.  Let’s say that we are being called … to hear the Spirit of God, speaking clearly through the people of God.  Let’s say that we are hearing Jesus speak in every trauma and challenge that is being presented to us in the news.  Let’s hear the news that Christ is alive and pushing through against the forces that seek to oppress humanity.

Let’s put our heads and hearts together (it only takes 2 to join together in Christ’s name for Christ to be present) to pray and to act Creation into a new existence.  We can do this … because we are part of God’s creation … not meant to be here to overtake and oppress, rather meant to partner and grow together to become the hope of God’s imagination.

We are in the season of Lent (Ash Wednesday, March 9 to Easter Sunday, April 24), typically a time of “giving up” something material.  What GKM Alive!!! is doing instead is taking on a closer relationship with Creation, focusing each Sunday’s praise and worship (not to mention everything on each weekday too) on an aspect of Creation that builds us into wholeness with God’s Creation through Christ Jesus (see calendar), learning and giving and living as God calls us to do so.  Check out the “Tread Lightly” calendar of activities at www.nccecojustice.org.

So, rather than turning off the news, let’s turn up the news … let’s hear it clearly … Christ Jesus is alive in the streets, alive in the challenges, alive in the moments of people reaching out to each other in love.  We are called to be and live the Good News as an awesome, life-giving choice and alternative to any bad news we hear.  Praise be to Creator God, Partner Christ and Spirit Alive!
